Maggie 2

Well, here is Ms McCully gracing the cover of Strip Lingerie, one of the many titles produced by the more down-market Ben’s Books (no captions, just pics). Like S&S, the pages were all black and white with just the cover in colour. It’s quite likely this cover was hand-coloured with Maggie’s brilliant white choppers and rather smooth skin tones being the give-away. There is obviously no date anywhere on this publication but it probably was issued several years after the March 1962 Beautiful Britons on the cover of which Maggie also appeared in a very similar set (and again on the cover of Spick May 1962). The copy of BB would have set you back two bob whereas SL was going for all of five. Again, I suspect the BB cover was also hand-coloured. The patterns and colours of Maggie’s frock are different, while in BB her petticoat is white, but yellow in SL. And in BB she is wearing a bonnet. Otherwise, the sets in both mags scream the same shoot. A good clue as to their origin lies in the fact that prints from the BB spread entitled Winter Chills are not offered. Which would mean the pics were submitted on spec and ToCo did not possess the negs, hence why images from the shoot pitched up later at Ben’s. Tap on the pic above to see the BB cover.
