Cutie Capers

Although they were the staple (no pun intended) in the 1950s deep into the 1960s, black-and-white pocket books still seemed to have some traction at the end of the latter decade into the early 1970s (though not for much longer). One company trying its luck was the so-called Gadoline Publications of Surrey. It launched a short-lived series called Frolics, sub-titled Cutie Capers. There were echoes of ToCo’s Funfare series in the 1950s, generally a couple of models in a themed setting throughout the mag. Fair to say they were more low-rent than Funfare, but the cover price was much heftier. The majority were shot in the same big suburban house. In this particular title, the car being washed was an E-Type Jag, so we can safely assume whoever ran Gadoline Publications was not short of a bob or two. And one photo shoot was sufficient to fill a five-shilling book with no text, so costs were far lower than that borne by ToCo. Familiar models included Linda Deane here and in a couple of other numbers Bobby Shaw.
